Coverage is easy to understand and well spelt out. Claims are easy and you're reimbursed fast! I'm super happy I'm fully covered because vet bills can be so expensive where I live.

Pet Insurance FAQs

Pet insurance can be hard to understand.
So we wrote these to make it easy!

See all FAQs
  • No, Petted is not an insurer. We’re a family of pet owners like you that have put together this website so you can impartially compare the coverage and prices from the leading insurance providers in the market. As we’re completely independent we don’t favor one provider over another. We’ll help you find the best deal and be confident in what you’re getting for your money.

In addition, we provide a range of pet wellness plans for you to select from. You can either add one of our wellness plans onto an accident and illness plan or if you prefer you can buy a wellness plan on its own. Because we don’t have lots of corporate mouths to feed, our wellness plans are generally less expensive than other providers and represent great value-for-money.
  • Pet insurance covers your pet against future accidents, such as poisoning, bite wounds, sprains, ACL ruptures or if your pet gets into a vehicle accident.

It also covers regular illnesses such as ear infections, vomiting and diarrhea, or more serious illnesses such as cancer, heart disease or diabetes. Additionally, it covers chronic illnesses such as allergies, arthritis and skin conditions, hereditary conditions such as hip dysplasia and epilepsy and congenital conditions such as an eye or limb defect.

When your pet needs to visit the vet for an accident or illness, any required imaging such as X-rays, MRI’s and CT scans, other testing or diagnostics such as ultrasounds and blood tests are covered.  Should your pet need surgery for their condition this is fully covered also, from the anesthetic to the surgery itself, vet prescribed drugs and follow up consultations with the vet.

If you’re just looking for a routine wellness plan to cover your pet’s expected routine care such as their annual shots, flea, tick and heartworm meds, physical exams or spay and neuter costs then you can select this from our results page when you get a quote for your pet.
  • In summary, having a pet insurance plan lets you make decisions about your pet’s long-term health without worrying about the cost.

The average pet insurance plan costs around $40 per month and for this, you can be confident that if your pet has an accident or has an illness in future, the insurance plan will pay the vast majority of the cost.

The worst conversations we have on a daily basis are from pet parents that have just found out their pet has cancer, which can easily cost over $10,000 to treat, and they have no coverage in place. Instead of being able to make the best choice for their pet, they usually have to make the least expensive choice.

If you’re in the position that you wouldn’t be able to afford treatment if something happened to your pet that’s going to lead to a large vet bill, it’s vital to consider investing in a pet insurance plan, because none of us can predict when an accident or illness will occur.
  • Unlike human health insurance, most pet insurance plans reimburse you for the cost of veterinary care. However, recently this has been changing to a scenario where more and more vets will accept payment directly from the insurance company. It’s worth asking your vet if they will take payment from the insurer because if so you’ll only need to pay for any deductible and co-pay you chose. If your vet won’t accept payment from the insurer then it’s usually just a few days until the insurer will reimburse you.

Tip: If you can’t afford to pay the vet bill you should ask them about Scratchpay or Care Credit, as they will both lend you the money until the insurance payment comes through.
