What’s the best pet insurance – ManyPets or Lemonade?
Lemonade and ManyPets are both comparatively new companies, meaning they make for a handy side-by-side comparison. There really isn’t much in it so, even more than most comparisons, the decision really is yours. It’s your decision. It’s subjective. We hope that after reading this guide you’ll be less confused. We strongly suggest that you also use our super-speedy pet insurance quote page and review pages, which will help you decide which pet insurance plan is best for you. What do the plans cover?
ManyPets and Lemonade both offer accident and illness plans covering things like hereditary, congenital and chronic conditions. ManyPets offers end-of-life coverage and dental illness as standard, however Lemonade requires you to take out an optional add-on to cover these. Lemonade also asks that you take out an add-on in order to have alternative therapies covered. ManyPets doesn't cover these but will, generally, include bilateral conditions. Both plans cover many common illnesses and conditions that a pet can suffer from, such as:- Arthritis
- Cancer
- Cataracts
- Cruciate injury
- Dental disease
- Dermatitis
- Diabetes
- Diarrhea
- Ear infections
- Hip dysplasia
- Gastroenteritis
- Kidney disease
- Limping
- Liver disease
- Lymphoma
- Pancreatitis
- Seizures
- Vomiting

Are there any exclusions?
Both ManyPets and Lemonade exclude pre-existing conditions. ManyPets, however, says it only categorises something as pre-existing if it has required advice, treatment or medication in the last 18 months. It doesn’t, however, cover hip dysplasia if the pet enrolled is six years or older. Lemonade will cover hip dysplasia (and other congenital conditions) as long as there are no symptoms until after your policy has begun. Its waiting period for dysplasia is six months. Lemonade makes a point of saying that preventable situations and neglect are not covered in their plans. It’s always best to read the full list of exclusions before signing up for any pet insurance plan. How expensive are Lemonade and ManyPets?
Lemonade may be a little cheaper but there isn’t much in it. Lemonade charges you for paying monthly (ManyPets do not) but neither has an enrolment fee. It is worth noting that Lemonade is a public benefit corporation and, as such, a percentage of its profits go to causes like animal welfare groups. Do Lemonade or ManyPets offer discounts?
Lemonade offers you a multi-pet discount of 5% and promises to give you 10% off if you bundle your pet insurance with their car, life or homeowners insurance. ManyPets offers no discounts. Are the plans customizable?
Lemonade has annual coverage options ranging from $5,000 to $100,000 but ManyPets has an unlimited coverage cap. The two companies have the same deductible options: $100, $250, or $500. Reimbursement options are 70, 80 or 90% for both. At Lemonade you can have things like vet visit fees and physical therapy covered by choosing the Extended Accident and Illness add-on package. If you want to focus more on prevention and wellness, you can add on a package that pays for things like vaccines, blood tests, dental cleaning, and annual wellness exams. ManyPets also has a similar preventative care add-on.How do I make claims?
ManyPets doesn’t have an app but has a quick claims process with two options: calling the company or doing it online. Really, paying via the app is the option with Lemonade: its AI-led app processes claims easily and more quickly than competitors, with the company claiming that 30% of claims are approved in three minutes. Are they easy to contact?
They certainly are. Lemonade can be reached via its app, phone (844 733 8666), social media or email (help@lemonade.com). ManyPets has myriad options as well: phone (888 978 5291), email, live website chat, and social media.Customer reviews
While ManyPets customers are glowing with praise for the service, it is impossible to ignore that there are some negative reviews that complain about the company’s customer service. ManyPets is a young company, however, and much of this could be put down to teething problems. Lemonade customers are content, talking about the ease of the app and likening it to online shopping. They are also happy with the value for money that it offers.Frequently asked questions
People ask us a lot of different questions about the pet insurance providers we work with. It’s the smart thing to do because no two insurers are the same. Here are some common questions (and the answers!).What are the waiting periods?
Lemonade's are short, with only two days for accidents and 14 days for illnesses. ManyPets are longer – 15 days for accident and illness – but if you’re switching from a different insurer, it's unique in offering to bring down those waiting periods to 24 hours in both instances.
Do the plans include behavioral treatments?
At Lemonade, they come as one of five potential add-ons. This would be subject to a $1,000 limit annually, and would not include – among other things – pre-existing behavioral conditions, prescription food, obedience training, and alternative medicines.
Is there a maximum age for enrolment?
At Lemonade and ManyPets it’s 14 years.
Do they need my pet’s medical records?
Yes, both will. Lemonade stipulates that it wants a medical record that includes information from a visit that happened within a year of your policy start date. ManyPets wants medical records from the last 18 months.
Will the insurer pay the vet directly?
No, neither will.
Is my pet covered in other countries?
Both companies are only available to residents in 36 US states but will cover your pet for travel across the country and trips to Canada.
Do they have a vet telehealth service?
Neither has a telehealth service.
