Are there any exclusions?
Both ManyPets and Pets Best exclude pre-existing conditions. ManyPets, however, will cover some curable pre-existing conditions if it hasn't required advice, treatment or medication in the last 18 months. ManyPets also includes bilateral conditions (e.g. hip dysplasia in one leg even if the other has had dysplasia), but doesn't cover hip dysplasia if the pet enrolled is six years or older. Pets Best covers pets with hip dysplasia irrespective of age. Its waiting period is 14 days. It’s always best to read the full list of exclusions before signing up for any pet insurance plan. How expensive are Pets Best and ManyPets?
It's too close to call which of the two is the more expensive. ManyPets may be slightly cheaper than Pets Best but there isn’t much in it at all. Both ManyPets and Pets Best have an unlimited coverage cap, and prices that reflect this. ManyPets doesn’t charge you for paying monthly, and neither does Pets Best. The latter does, however, charge you $2 for every transaction so paying quarterly or annually will save you a few bucks. Do Pets Best or Many Pets offer discounts?
Pets Best offers a 5% multi-pet discount but ManyPets doesn't offer any reduction. Are the plans customizable?
Oh yes, you can adjust your plans – including your reimbursements and deductibles – at both providers. Many Pets has three deductible levels ($100, $250, $500), while Pets Best has one of the highest ranges of annual deductibles out there, with six ($50, $100, $200, $250, $500, and $1,000). Both offer reimbursement options of 70%, 80% or 90%. At Pets Best you can choose an annual cover limit of $5,000 or unlimited, whereas ManyPets has unlimited coverage as standard. Both insurers offer a wellness add-on to cover routine and preventative treatments. How do I make claims?
Pets Best says that the best way to claim is through your account, which is available on any device or via its app. You'll need proof of the payment to your vet and need you to make your claim within 180 days of the treatment. ManyPets doesn’t have the option of an app but has a quick claims process with two options: calling the company or doing it online. Are they easy to contact?
Oh yes. You can reach Pets Best by phone (877 738 7237), by fax (866 777 1434) or by mail. ManyPets' contact options are phone (888 978 5291), email, live website chat, and social media.Customer reviews
Pets Best reviewers are a contented bunch, speaking highly of the company’s speedy claims procedures. Some may have some issues about the way in which claims have been handled but the feedback is overwhelmingly favourable. While ManyPets customers are glowing with praise for the service, it is impossible to ignore that there are some negative reviews that find fault with the company’s customer service. ManyPets are a young company, however, and much of this could be put down to teething problems.Frequently asked questions
People ask us a lot of different questions about the pet insurance providers we work with. It’s the smart thing to do because no two insurers are the same. Here are some common questions (and the answers!).What are the waiting periods?
Pets Best policies take three days to kick in for accidents and 14 days for illnesses. ManyPets' waiting period is 15 days for both, but if you’re switching from a different insurer, it's unique in bringing this down to 24 hours in both instances.
Do the plans include behavioral treatments?
A standard Pets Best policy will include behavioral consultations and or medications prescribed by a vet. ManyPets’ policies do not.
Is there a maximum age for enrolment?
At ManyPets it is 14. Pets Best is unusual in not having an upper age limit but be aware that your premium is likely to increase as the animal ages.
Do they need my pet’s medical records?
Yes, both do. ManyPets wants medical records from the last 18 months. Pets Best doesn't specify.
Will the insurer pay the vet directly?
ManyPets won't but Pets Best might. If your vet is willing, they can sign a release form for Pets Best's Vet Direct Pay service, which means that you only need pay what you owe depending on your deductible and reimbursement levels, and Pets Best will pay your vet the rest – if the claim is successful.
Is my pet covered in other countries?
Pets Best covers your pet across the US and in Puerto Rico and Canada, while ManyPets covers you across the US and for trips to Canada. ManyPets is, however, only available to residents of 36 states in the US.
Do they have a vet telehealth service?
Pets Best does, ManyPets doesn't.
