How does Spot pet insurance work?
There are a wide range of plans available with Spot covering accidents, illnesses, hereditary conditions, and emergency care. Preventative care is an available extra and customers can customize deductible, reimbursement, and annual limit amounts – all of which will affect your monthly premium. The age, breed, sex, and location of your pet will also be used to calculate your quote. Claims can be submitted via the app, website, fax, or mail. They are then paid by direct deposit or through a check sent in the mail.
The benefits of Spot pet insurance
Flexibility and personalization is key with Spot insurance. You can add as little or as much as you want to your plan and there is coverage to suit every budget, starting from as low as $17 a month. You’ll also be able to claim a 10% multi-pet discount on added pets and a $25 Amazon gift card if you live in an eligible state – subject to availability. The 24/7 VetConnect™ telehealth service is a huge plus for pet parents who might need emergency support or extra guidance. There is also no upper age limit for enrolment.
Spot plans explained
The two types of basic plan are accident + illness cover or accident only. But each of these plans can be fully customized by annual limit ($2500-unlimited), reimbursement rate (70-90%), and annual deductible ($100-$1,000). From here you can also add a basic or premium preventative care plan at an extra cost.
What does Spot pet insurance cover?
Most Spot plans cover accidents, illnesses, hereditary and congenital conditions, behavioral issues, and alternative treatment – some of the most comprehensive insurance on the market. Exam fees, microchip implantation, and selected dietary supplements are also included which will be hard to find elsewhere.

Verdict: Is Spot pet insurance good?
Overall, Spot is a good option for pet owners who know what they want and like to take control. The plans are flexible, extensive, and generous, offering more coverage than other competitors. Although you might experience slightly longer than average waiting periods, we’re sure the Pet Health Helpline will make up for it, which is manned 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. Our reviewers loved the multi-pet discount and the fact that there is no upper age limit for pets to be enrolled. The app and website are very efficient but those who like to fall back on traditional paperwork might be disappointed.
