Pets have a great life in the Garden State but there are many reasons why you should get pet insurance in New Jersey
The Garden State is famous for its coastal towns and a certain Italian-American family, but – other than rats – it’s a great place for animals. With all kinds of fun to be had with your pet, it’s a smart move to get pet insurance, just in case things go wrong.
Splendid seaside
If there’s one thing that New Jersey has plenty of, it’s places to swim – and most of them are open to your pet taking the plunge at least some months of the year. Dog-friendly beaches include Stone Harbor beach, Sandy Hook, and Brigantine North End beach. There are specific dog beaches, including Longport in Egg Harbor and 8th Avenue in Asbury Park.
Of course, with the sea and the sun comes risk. Keep your pet hydrated and don’t let them drink seawater. Keep them out of the heat too – dogs in particular have a lower temperature threshold than humans and treatment for sunstroke in dogs can be fatal (it can also cost $5,000 to treat). Clinging jellyfish have be seen on New Jersey’s shores, and treating a sting can cost $1,800.
Hikes and yikes
Dogs can also swim in the reservoir at the Ramapo Valley County Reservation, but there’s also some great trails that you can explore together. In fact, New Jersey has more hills and forest than you might think.
Be careful when out hiking in them, though – there are bears and snakes which could cause your pet serious harm and your bank balance, too, if you don’t have pet insurance.
Booze hounds
Liquids that pet parents enjoy can be found at the state’s many breweries, distilleries and wineries, such as Cold Spring Brewery, 7 Mile Brewery, New Jersey Beer Company, Departed Soles Brewing Company, Nauti Spirits Distillery, Bellview Winery and Working Dog Winery.
The good news is, all of these and more welcome furry clientele, but remember: even if your Burmese or Bichon Frise is over 21, never give your pet alcohol. They can’t drink the stuff and poisoning could set you back several thousand dollars in vet bills.
Why get pet insurance at all?
At Petted, we sincerely believe that pet insurance is a must for all pet parents, whether you live in New York, North Carolina or Nebraska. It doesn’t matter if you’re a city- or country-dweller, if you have a Bull Mastiff or a Burmese, your beloved pet is at risk from injury, illness and inherited conditions – and these things can cost a lot of money to fix.
If you don’t have a very large savings account then you run the risk of either getting into a ton of debt (we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars in some cases) or – and we hate to think about this – not being able to pay for your pet’s treatment and having to either give them up or, tragically, have them euthanized.
So, for the sake of a few dollars a month, please buy yourself some peace of mind and your pet a healthier, more secure future. To find the best pet insurance policy for where you live, click here. We'll fetch you the perfect quotes in less than a minute.
