Pets have a great life in the Ocean State but there are many reasons why you should get pet insurance in Rhode Island
The Ocean State, like a lot of pets, is small and beautiful. It’s the smallest state in the country, in fact, and with 400 miles of coastline, your dog can end each Rhode Island day just like you: covered in sand and sunshine. They should also be covered by pet insurance, so you can relax while you enjoy yourselves.
Life's a beach
It would take too long to list all of the picturesque beaches in the state but Narragansett Town Beach, Sachuest Beach, and Block Beach all allow dogs on leashes to enjoy a frolic. The latter even has a section on which dogs can enjoy some off-leash time. Be aware, whenever your dog is having a great time in the Rhode Island sun, that the repercussions of heatstroke can be severe both for your dog and your pocket.
It can cost around $5,000 to treat this serious condition, so be sure to pack not just your trunks but plenty of water for your furry companion. And salt poisoning – which could occur if your dog consumes too much sea water and fails to hydrate themselves – can set you back $5,000 at the vet’s. So be safe and ensure your loved one is insured – if you do take a trip to the vet, you’ll be in for much less of a shock.
Movie ruffs
If your French Bulldog is a less of a beach bum and more of a cinephile, the dog-friendly Rustic Tri-View Drive-In in North Smithfield is a great place to take them to watch a new or a classic film. Get a burger and fry basket ($5) and see if your pet finds Marley and Me charming or insulting. Be careful not to show them anything too scary though: a heart attack would land you with a bill of around $8,000.
In addition to the natural beauty of the beaches and conservation areas, Rhode Island has dedicated dog parks galore. At South Kingstown’s, there are fenced-in areas for larger and smaller dogs, as there are in the well-reviewed Warwick City and Charlestown Ninigret parks. Be careful that your dog doesn’t get over-excited and pull any muscles though; you could be charged $1,500 for muscle spasms.
Pets and pints
The fictional Pawtucket Brewery is where Family Guy’s Peter Griffin makes a living. In real life there are in fact a range of breweries in the city of Pawtucket – The Guild, Crooked Current, Foolproof, Smug and Bucket – most if not all of which are happy to welcome dogs. Do mind, however, where they wander off to. Alcohol poisoning might cost you $1,800 you don’t have insurance.
Rhode Island, like some other states, limits pets in a household to three. Remember that before four months your cat or dog will need a rabies vaccination, and that you’ll need a licence if you want to look after a dog.
Why get pet insurance at all?
At Petted, we sincerely believe that pet insurance is a must for all pet parents, whether you live in New York, North Carolina or Nebraska. It doesn’t matter if you’re a city- or country-dweller, if you have a Bull Mastiff or a Burmese, your beloved pet is at risk from injury, illness and inherited conditions – and these things can cost a lot of money to fix.
If you don’t have a very large savings account then you run the risk of either getting into a ton of debt (we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars in some cases) or – and we hate to think about this – not being able to pay for your pet’s treatment and having to either give them up or, tragically, have them euthanized.
So, for the sake of a few dollars a month, please buy yourself some peace of mind and your pet a healthier, more secure future. To find the best pet insurance policy for where you live, click here. We'll fetch you the perfect quotes in less than a minute.
