Pet insurance in Nevada

Pets have a great life in the Silver State but there are many reasons why you should get pet insurance in Nevada.

Nevada is made up of mostly desert land, with the exception of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. It has been labelled as the driest state in the US due to its terrain, although the weather conditions do vary depending on whether you’re in the north or the south.

The winter season in northern Nevada is long and cold, so wrapping up with multiple layers is essential when leaving the house. This goes for your pet also, especially if you have a pup (or cat) that struggles with the cold. Being exposed to these conditions could cause your pet to develop hypothermia which, in more serious circumstances, can cost up to $3,000 to treat.

However, those living in the south of the state tend to experience short, very mild winters. The summers are extremely hot and dry – hence being named the driest state. Carson City, the state’s capital, supposedly has the best weather in the whole state, recording an average of 253 days of sun each year.

You could also visit any of the Nevada state parks. There are 24 to choose from and most are dog-friendly. Many have leash laws, but that won’t stop your pup having fun. If you’re looking for a splash around, Beaver Dam may be the best spot for you. Amongst the thick forests you’ll find streams and waterfalls which can be huge fun for you and your fur baby.

If you fancy a peaceful retreat with your dog, then check out Lake Tahoe. You can go fishing, picnicking and hiking around the natural oasis. You can even go skiing in the winter, so there is definitely something for everyone.

The majority of the people in Nevada reside in the urban areas, with around half of the state's population living in Las Vegas.

The vibrant city is also known for accommodating your furry friends. Many of the hotels and resorts now welcome dogs to stay with their families, and some even let cats stay too. If your Golden Retriever loves a bit of urban sightseeing, you are able to walk them down the Las Vegas strip, but make sure it’s only between the hours of 5am and noon.

Be wary though, especially when walking through the more commercial areas. This city is stereotypically known for partying and going a bit wild. People visiting may throw all sorts of rubbish on the floor, so your pup could potentially step on something that could harm them (such as glass in their paw, which may cost around $1,450 in vet fees).

Therefore it might be better to take them a bit further out for a walk or even a hike. Red Rock Canyon is one of the many trails you can explore with your pup and it’s only a short drive from the strip. There is also the Echo Canyon-Fossil Ridge Loop and Mount Charleston if you’re looking for adventure.

Why get pet insurance at all?

At Petted, we sincerely believe that pet insurance is a must for all pet parents, whether you live in New York, North Carolina or Nebraska. It doesn’t matter if you’re a city- or country-dweller, if you have a Bull Mastiff or a Burmese, your beloved pet is at risk from injury, illness and inherited conditions – and these things can cost a lot of money to fix.

If you don’t have a very large savings account then you run the risk of either getting into a ton of debt (we’re talking tens of thousands of dollars in some cases) or – and we hate to think about this – not being able to pay for your pet’s treatment and having to either give them up or, tragically, have them euthanized.

So, for the sake of a few dollars a month, please buy yourself some peace of mind and your pet a healthier, more secure future. To find the best pet insurance policy for where you live, click here. We'll fetch you the perfect quotes in less than a minute.

When walking our little Beagle, Benny, when he was attacked by a rattlesnake. We took him straight to the vet to be treated, luckily she was seen very quickly and is now on the road to recovery. Without pet insurance it would have cost around $7,500.

Our lab escaped the back garden on a freezing winter morning. When we found her, her paw pads were incredibly damaged and riddled with frostbite. We paid nothing to have her seen and treated, but it would have set us back around $1,000 without a good insurance plan.
